ESB History
In 1896, what was then known as People’s Bank, was the sole bank in Metcalfe County. Today, that bank is now known as Edmonton State Bank, and it has expanded to 12 locations and 4 additional counties including Allen, Barren, Monroe and Warren.
Bank Timeline
1895 People’s Bank established with approximately $8,000 in deposits.
1936 Edmonton State Bank was established when People’s Bank and Farmer’s & Merchant’s Bank merged.
1962 Johnny Thompson, current CEO of Edmonton State Bank, started at the bank as a teller.
1966 The main office of Edmonton State Bank was moved to a new modern facility across the square.
1974 Johnny Thompson became President of the bank.
1976 Edmonton State Bank opened an office in Center.
1981 Edmonton State Bank opened a second branch in Edmonton on West End to accommodate the needs of Metcalfe County.
1983 The Bank of Summer Shade merged with Edmonton State Bank to offer the people of Metcalfe County 4 full-service locations.
1984 Edmonton State Bank acquired Peoples Bank of Tompkinsville, expanding their services to Monroe County.
1984 David Thompson began working for the bank.
1988 As needs grew, so did Edmonton State Bank. A branch was opened in Gamaliel.
1997 Edmonton State Bank expands to Barren County opening a large, full service branch in Glasgow.
1998 Edmonton State Bank opens a second location in Glasgow near TJ Samson Community Hospital.
2003 Allen County is added to the communities served as Edmonton State Bank opens a branch in Scottsville.
2007 ESB expands to Warren County and adds its 11th branch with the addition of the Bowling Green office.
2007 The bank names David Thompson as its new President.
2010 A second ESB branch was added in Allen County at Patriot Courtyard - bringing ESB's total number of locations to 12.
